F.A.Meet & Critique

Ok, so it went pretty well last Wednesday, thank you all for coming along! And we are ding it again. Let's meet at 12.30 in the Base room for another F.A.Meet & Critique. This time we will have some tea and biscuits and hopefully get a nice chat going.
Please, who ever wants to show work put your name down to me so that I can make sure we have enough time for everyone to show stuff. Also, it could be useful if you could think of a few things in relation to your work that you'd like us to speak about, so that the discussion can be dynamic.

A few people requested that we'd meet on a Tuesday instead, which is great, but this Tuesday Christy is having a meeting, so that would clash with out little group. Perhaps we can make it Tuesdays when spring term comes? What do you think?

See you!
Lots of Love, x Elin Karlsson

Monday 5 December 2011

Hello guys!
Fancy coming along on Wednesday at 12.30 for an afternoon of art watching and idea popping? Lets call it our FAM Critique Group. Basically, each time we meet we will be looking at 1-3 different works that we will have a discussion about. Like our crits but without tutors (unless they wanna pop in I guess..)
This is across the year borders and across the subjects so all FAM students are welcome.

We will be meeting in the photography base room and for the first session Ian will be showing som 8 mm films he has been making and wants a bit of constructive criticism on. I expect that we will be busy for 1.5h.
There are still room for some more people to show work so please send me a message if you are interested. Remember this can be anything from your poster, logos, websites, dissertations, photography, video, performance art etc. You decide what you want to share. Anything goes!

Do you want to volunteer in a gallery?

Stour Valley Arts gallery in Ashford, 5 minutes from the train station, is looking for new volunteers to join their team.

Stour Valley Arts have a small group of supporters who help out as volunteers as and when opportunities arise. For example, volunteer’s work with us at launches of new art works commissioned in the forest, take on some day-to-day work in the office and help us prepare for exhibitions and conferences. Some volunteers perform a valuable role by getting involved in and supporting education workshops and accompany visits from schools and other groups. Our aim is to extend the range of our voluntary work and offer our volunteers an enjoyable all-round experience of supporting this small but ambitious arts organisation in a unique location.
Contact us at info@stourvalleyarts.org.uk for further information or if you are interested in volunteering with Stour Valley Arts.

Volunteering is a great way to work with diverse members of the public. You will get real life experience from inside a vibrant part of the arts world. Stour Valley Arts is recently open gallery so you can expect to be a part of a developing environment. Before they had their gallery space they were operation in King's Wood forest. The forest is still a central element of their activities. Opportunities for critique evenings, volunteer trips, volunteer blogs and workshops will be developed around the volunteers. It is a great way to find like minded and artistic people. They are really interested in hearing what you can bring to Stour Valley Arts.

Please contact info@stourvalleyarts.org.uk for volunteering opportunities.

Or you can contact me if you have any questions you'd like to ask. Elin Karlsson @ elin_785@hotmail.com.

Guerrilla:Maidstone

Guerrilla | Maidstone
26 – 30th September
The Mall Maidstone

The idea of Guerrilla : Maidstone, is to provide up and coming photographers/artists a public platform for there work to be viewed. Taking advantage of slack spaces, it gives the viewer an exceptional chance to experience a variety of styles and approaches to the photographic medium. It also challenges the status quo of display, and the generic white cube associated with gallery space.

This exhibition is a showcase of work by photography students currently studying or graduated from UCA Maidstone, and an Erasmus exchange host Dublin institute of technology. With an array of different photographic concepts, the work shows the promising talent created by the next generation of passionate and dedicated students. The exhibition is hoped to be inspiring and thought provoking to a wider audience. With works by Fleur Alston, Amy Bindon, Elin Karlson, Ali Farmer, Ciuin Tracey, Treasa O Hanlon, Michalis Intzieyianni, Deidre McGing, Caitriona Lawless, Lyndsey Putt, Phoebe Gill,Noel Noblett, emily hedge, Lou Gage, Michelle Kleyr and Florence Geary
